Abstract:
Information on long-term climate variability of western Himalayan region based on instrumental records and dendroclimatic investigation have been discussed. Instrumental records of monthly temperature and precipitation of 10 stations for about 100 years have been analysed to look into the pattern of climate variability during the 20th century. Wide network of tree-ring data of Himalayan conifers have been used to deduce climatic information beyond the instrumental period. Pre-monsoon (March-April-May) climate of western Himalaya reconstructed from tree-rings since AD 1747 do not show any impact of Little Ice Age in the later phase of the phenomenon.
