dc.description.abstract | The present era is witnessing the revolutions in the field of Information Technology which are gradually transforming the mode of the work communication, Information media, and its handling. The explosive growths of the Internet and rapid change in the information technology have greatly enhanced the speed of communication. This has vastly changed the way the information is handled. The Libraries are adopting themselves to cope with the changing scenario. In addition to traditional sources of information, Libraries are acquiring the information from electronic resources in digitized form, available locally (CD-ROM) or globally (Internet). Organizing these resources is the first phase of creating the digital Libraries. In the present paper an attempt has been made to study some Digital Library creation software which are required for creating organizing managing and disseminating the digitally stored information. Most of the digital library software are the outcome of Digital Library Projects of the different universities of different countries and some are available free under GNU General Public License, while some are partially free and remaining are priced. Some software provided commercially from the manufacturer of digital libraries and e-books on various topics. A comparison of various features, hardware, operating system and requirements of additional software is also mentioned. It will enable the Librarians and Information Managers to understand the functionality of software. | en_US |
