dc.description.abstract | Drought is a complex and poorly understood natural hazard. Its impacts are far-reaching and may linger for months or even years beyond the termination of the event. The impact of drought results from complex interactions between physical and social systems. An understanding of the characteristics of drought and an appreciation of the magnitude of economic, social, and environmental impact must precede the establishment of a viable assessment and response strategy that will ultimately reduce our vulnerability to droughts. | en_US |
