Abstract:
With the increase in population and overall development, the demand for fresh water has increased manifold. Though water is required for agriculture, industries, domestic and commercial consumption, there is no serious attempt to develop the water resources on a multi purpose basis. The quality of water has, rarely been considered seriously while planning the water schemes. In this paper, the role of National Drinking Water Mission, one of the six National Societal Missions to solve the problem of safe drinking water has been highlighted. The two fold approach adopted by the mission have been discussed in detail.
