dc.description.abstract The development of water resources of the country to meet growing demands of rising population is a challenging task. Analysis of large volume of Hydrological data collected over a considerable period of time, are required for formulation of any water resources project besides determining its scope. These data are required to be collected and preserved even after a project is completed. The advent of computers has facilitated the storage of voluminous data and their retrieval in a easy, flexible, reliable and rapid fashion so that the same can be processed and presented in the manner required. One of the purpose behind the development of a data storage, processing and retrieval system for hydrological data is to overcome the inefficiencies and consequent difficulties of multi-file organisation in data handling by a computer. As an organisation grows and handles more and more of its information with computers, this need becomes more accute. The database provides a more flexible data structure than files and as holding all the data from several files together. The developed system is capable of adding new data values, modifying/retrieving the desired data from the existing database, performing data validation, time series analysis and frequency analysis, computing basic statistics. en_US
