Abstract:
Agriculture is an integral part of the Indian economy. Even today, almost two-thirds of India's population is dependent on agriculture. Indian agriculture is heavily dependent on monsoon rainfall. The arrival and distribution of monsoon rainfall are affecting the production of crops. Excess rainfall in an area can be seen with drought in some area. According to data from the Drought Early Warning System, about 42 percent of the land area of India is experiencing drought. Management of rainfall water is necessary to prepare irrigation for crop production. There are different methods of irrigation which tells how to gain maximum production in minimum water. Farmers need timely information over time about this. Therefore, in order to enable farmers to get timely information, the Indianbased Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi and Tata Consultancy Services have jointly started a mobile-based agro advisory Pusa mKRISHI® service. Through this application experts are sharing crop alert message on the mobile phone of farmers. Information on local market prices and weather forecast information are also being shared. Information on crop sowing, irrigation time, harvesting, storage facilities, nutrients, pests and disease management are being shared with farmers. Experts can reply with personalized responses in local language to the queries raised by farmers. In the year 2018-19, around 12% queries raised by farmers were regarding water/ Irrigation management and weather information
