Abstract:
Accordingto Mitchell(1999), “Inthe1950sandthe1960sseveralcomputer
scientistsindependentlystudiedevolutionarysystemswiththeideathatevolution
couldbeusedasanoptimizationtoolforengineeringproblems.Theideawasto
evolveapopulationofcandidatesolutionstoagivenproblem,usingoperators
inspiredbynaturalgeneticvariationandnaturalselection.”Allthesetechniques
are collectivelyreferredtoas evolutionarycomputation(EC)techniques. ECtech-
niques,alsoknownasheuristicsearchmethods,mostlyinvolvenature-inspired
metaheuristicoptimizationalgorithmssuchasevolutionaryalgorithms(EAs),com-
prisinggeneticalgorithms(GAs);evolutionaryprogramming,evolutionstrategy,
and geneticprogramming;swarmintelligence,comprisingantcolonyoptimization
and particleswarmoptimization;simulatedannealing;andtabusearch(Rani and
Moreira,2010).
