dc.description.abstract The Linear Perturbation Model (LPM), developed in University College, Galway, is applied to five river basins of the Western Ghats region in Kerala. The runoff values estimated using the model for larger basins compared well with the observed values in the calibration and verification modes. The LPM is used to reduce the dependence of linearity and increase the dependence on observed seasonal behaviour. The model has been applied in non-parameteric form; parameter optimization is carried out by the method of least squares. This model is acceptable for estimating the runoff values for the larger river basins of the Western Ghats region. en_US
