A simple conceptual lumped parameter watershed model developed in Ketucky for simulating daily streamflow has been modified to suit the conditions of small catchment areas in Western Gl-ats, in South India. The model is based on the principle of variable source area of streamflow generation. The performance of the model, which takes daily rainfall and potential evapotranspiration as the only inputs, has been tested using data from two catchments. Model parameters have been optimised by trial and error eyeballing best fit procedures. Results being encouraging, the response of the catchments to rainfall input has been studied with the aid of the model. It has been concluded that the model provides scope for further refinement and use in ungauged catchments. |
