dc.description.abstract The kinematic wave model of surface water hydrology is reviewed with a look towards the future. The paper focuses on three areas of concern: (1) the applicability of kinematic waves, (2) the role of numerical diffusion in kinematic wave modelling, and (3) the nature of kinematic shock. A brief discussion on the role of the Vedernikov number in flood wave diffusion is included. The paper closes with an attempt to answer the question: Where do we go from here in kinematic wave modelling? en_US
