Abstract:
Reliable forecast of flood is required for a number of purposes, e.g., flood control, flood damage reduction, and reservoir operation. Significant improvements in management of
water resources systems can be achieved if reliable forecasts are available with sufficient lead time. Real-time flood forecasting involves an element of urgency and hence simple models should be used to save computer time. The results of application of a non-linear routing algorithm for flood forecasting in a small basin are presented in this paper. The forecasts are updated in real-time using the Kalman Filter algorithm.
