dc.description.abstract The waters in the south western part of the state of Punjab are suitable for irrigation in its upper zone up to about 15 metres and deeper water is saline. To utilise these brackish waters so that ultimately the quality of water in the deeper zone improves, the saline samples can be utilised for irrigation by adequate mixing. The water in the deeper zone where it cannot be applied for irrigation, it may be used for pisciculture through evaporation .pits. The salts from these waters may ultimately be collected by evaporation and economically exploited. en_US
