Abstract:
Successful planning and management of irrigation projects requires vast amount of data related to command area. Reliable mapping of the areas affected by different problems in the command area are extremely useful for proper management measures.
In most of the command areas, the data is collected by different authorities like command area development authority, respective irrigation project authority and other-state level departments of the respective State Governments. The type of data, their storage format varies from one authority to another and from one state to another. So, there is a need to standardise the types of data and their format. which should be collected so that best management of the command area can be achieved.
With this objective in view, this report includes the various types of information/data which should be collected for a typical command area. The different formats for storage of data are also provided. As a typical example, a command area, Indira Gandhi Nahar Project, has been selected and the data collected from various organisations are Put into the desired format.
