Abstract:
Hydrometeorological analysis forms an important and integral part Of hydrological research. The hydrometeorological analysis comprises of wide range of studies which deal with vast amount of data. Accuracy of these investigations depend upon the quality of data used and hence some extend of data quality control/data processing is necessary before the actual analysis starts.
The aim of data processing is to manipulate the raw data and to put it in a proper form and extract the required information from it. It is necessary to evaluate the data for its accuracy and to prepare it in a form appropriate for subsequent analysis.
This technical report, which consists of three parts, has
been prepared by Sh.Chandramohan.T as a part of his 4 months'
UNDP training on Data Processing and Analysis, at Texas A&M
University, Texas, USA, under the guidance of Dr.W.P.James,
Associate Professor, Civil Engineering Department. Part I deals with the features of Modular GIS Environment (MGE PC-1), which is a typical Geographic Information System, the latest data capture, storage and analysis system. Part II explains the Hydrologic Engineering Centre, HEC-2 Water Surface Profile software, its data requirements and its applications. Part III covers a project work which simulates unsteady hydrodynamic flow condition in an estuarine system with the aid of FESWMS-2DH, a finite element two dimensional surface water flow model, using the data from a Texas Gulf coast estuarine system.
