dc.description.abstract Futala lake is one of the prime lake of Nagpur. The lake is a rainwater impoundment with a water spread area of 37.58 hectares and average depth of 4.5 meters during monsoon. Due to increase in population at the vicinity, the lake aesthetics has deteriorated gradually resulting in heavy weed growth and bad odour all around the year. Water quality assessment studies on the Futala lake were conducted by NEERI on the request of Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT), Nagpur during 2003 - 2004 to assess the condition of the lake. The condition of the lake is observed to be mesotrophic heading towards eutrophic condition. The study report discusses about the analysis of the water quality of the lake and suggests the means to improve it through eco-remediation measures. en_US
