A catchment is an individual entity, and are naturally occurring units of the land scape, which contains complex array of interlinked and interdependent resources and activities irre-
spective of political boundaries. Also it is a logical unit having readily identifiable boundaries and characteristics of water movement, this helps in coordinate planning and management.
In the engineering hydrology, flood routing is an important technique necessary for complete solution of flood-control problems and for the satisfactory operation of flood prediction services. The application of routing techniques helps in finding of solution to numerous problems such as, design of spillway size for intermediate and large dams, synthesis of runoff hydrographs from gauged and ungauged catchments and to set up the warning services for the planning, executing and maintenance of water resources projects.
