dc.description.abstract Out of the 329 m ha geographical area of the country, about 140 m ha is only under cultivation. Moreover an area of around 144 m ha is suffering from water and wind erosion and about 29 m ha from special problems of water logging, excessive salt concentration, gullied and ravinous soils and area subject to shifting cultivation, riverine and torrents (Abrol 1990). en_US
