dc.description.abstract The demand for the storage, analysis and display of complex and voluminous spatial data has led, in recent years, to the Use of computers for data handling and the creation of sophisticated information systems. Effective use of large spatial volume is dependent upon the existence of efficient systems that can transform these data into useable information. Geographic Information System (GIS) is designed to accept large volumes of spatial data, derived from variety of sources, including remote sensors and to efficiently store and retrieve, manipulate, analyse and display these data according to user defined specifications. In this report all of these components are covered in different chapters alongwith a case study. The present report has been prepared by Sh. S.K.Jain and S.K. Goyal , Scientist 'B' and is a part of training which they obtained at International Institute of Aerospace Survey and Earth Sciences (ITC), Enschede,The Netherlands within the frame work of Indo-Dutch Training Program on water management (WAMATRA PHASE-II). en_US
