With  increasing  environmental  concerns  and  rapid  growth  of  wastewater  in domestic  as  well  as  in  industrial  sector,  there  is  an  urgent  need  to  treat  the wastewater  with  lower  environmental  footprints.  Different  types  of  treatment technologies  are  practice  to  treat  large  amount  of  wastewaters.  It  was  found  that there  is  the  research  gap  of  appropriate  comparison  of  wastewater  treatment technologies,  hence  this  study  was  undertaken.  Present  study  investigates  the performance  of  four  municipal  sewage  treatment  plants  (STP)  in  India  based  on different  technologies.  Environmental  impacts  of  selected  STPs  were  calculated and   compared  through  Life  Cycle  Assessment  tool  using  CML 2  baseline methodology  and  Eco-invent  database.  Only  operation  and  maintenance  phase of  each  technology  used  in  secondary  treatment  was  considered  during  the study.  Four  impact  categories  including,  energy  consumption,  Global  Warming Potential,  Acidification  Potential  and  Eutrophication  Potential  were  considered. During  assessment,  four  technologies  of  sewage  treatment,  namely,  Constructed Wetland  (CW),  Activated  Sludge  Process (ASP),  Extended  Aeration (EA)  and Submerged  Aerobic  Fixed   Film  Reactor (SAFF)  were  selected.  Among  the selected  STPs,  the  CWs  based  STP  has  found  in  owing  negligible  energy consumption  and  negative  Global  Warming  Potential (GWP)  due  to  carbon sequestration  capacity  of  macrophyte (Canna  indica),   than  other  treatment technologies.  SAFF  reactor  and  EA  process  shows  almost  similar  emission impact  for  all  impact  categories.  The  main  contributors   of  environmental  impacts of  STPs  are  emission  allied  with  electricity  production  required  for  operation  of plant.

Remote  sensing,  encompassing  the  study  of  satellite  data,  is  a  powerful  technique  for exploration,  mapping  and  management  of  the  earth  resources.  It  is  understood  to  imply  the acquisition  of  information  about  and  object  by  scientific  devices  called  sensors  without  being any  physical  contact  between  the  object  and  the  sensing  device. &#13;
The  basic  principle  involved  in  remote  sensing  is  each  object,  depending  upon  its physical  characteristics,  reflects,  emits  and  absorbs  varying  intensities  of  radiation  at  different EM  wavelength  ranges.  Using  information  from  one  or  more  wavelength  ranges,  it  is  possible to  discriminate  between  different  types  of  ground  objects (e.g.  water,  dry  soil,  wet  soil, vegetation,  rocks  etc.)  and  map  their  distribution  on  the  ground.  One  of  the  important  remote sensing  technique  use  is  aerial  photography,  Aerial  photography  has  essential  remained  to  the visible  part  of  the  electromagnet  spectrum  where  it  is  only  a  very  fraction  of  the electromagnetic  spectrum.  Remote  sensing  techniques  have  extended  the  scope  of  utilisation of  the  electromagnetic  spectrum  to  almost  its  entire  range. &#13;
The  electromagnetic  radiation  (EM)  is  the  source  of  all  signals  collected  by  most remote  sensing  instruments.  The  source  of  this  energy  varies  depending  on  the  sensor characteristics.  Most  systems  rely  on  the  sun  to  generate  all  the  EM  energy  needed  to  image their  own  energy,  called  active  sensors,  transmits  that  energy  in  a  certain  direction  and records  the  portion  reflected  back  to  features  within  the  single  path.

Water  is  a  transparent  fluid  which  form  the  world  's  streams,  lakes,  oceans  and rain  and  is  the  major  constituent  of  the  fluids  of  organisms  .  As  a  chemical compound  ,  a  water  molecule  contains   one  oxygen  and  two  hydrogen  atoms  that are  connected   by  covalent  bonds  .  Water  is  a  liquid  at  standard  ambient temperature  and  pressure  ,  but  it  often  coexist  on  earth  with  its  solid  state  ,  ice and  gaseous  state,  steam  (water  vapour). &#13;
Even  today  man  has  brought  about  changes  whether  through  urbanization  and growth  of  population  centre  by  introduction  and  employment  of  auxiliary  means in  agriculture  which  has  disturbed  or  destroyed  the  natural  healthy  quality  of water  bodies  .

Water  is  an  important  part  of  human  life.  Without  water  no  one  can  survive  on the  earth.  It  is  the  medium  of  life.  About  97%  of  total  water  are  in  saline  form  in oceans  and  remaining  3%  in  fresh  form.  On  land  more  then  74.9%  of  fresh  water is  in  the  form  of  ice  at  the  two  poles  [north  and  south]  and  about  30%  is  in  the form  of  underground  water.  About 0.115%  of  fresh  water  is  in  the  form  of atmospheric  moisture,  river,  streams,  lakes,   pools,  artificial,  reservoirs  etc.  In which  0.035%  in  standing  form  as  ponds,  lakes  and  reservoirs.
