dc.description.abstractGlacier melt studies is one of the research activity of the Mountain Hydrology Division of the National Institute of Hydrology. The scientists of this division have participated in several glacier expeditions such as Chhota Shigri Glacier Expedition, 1986, 1987 and 1988 and carried out hydrological investigations. A glacier expedition was organised for Kolhai Glacier (J&K) in 1989. Kolhai Glacier in Kashmir is known to be the major source of water for the West Lidder river. The J&K Irrigation Department requested the National Institute of Hydrology to carry out hydrological studies of Kolhai Glacier. This was an multidisciplinary expedition organised by National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee; J&Kirrigation Irrigation and Flood Control Department with the participation of Survey of India, Dehradun. This report incorporating the report on surveys carried out by SOI has been prepared by Dr. Pratap Singh, Scientist 'B'of Mountain Hydrology Division.en_US
