Abstract: | System analysis models have been categorized as simulation, optimization and hybrid models (combination of simulation and optimization models). A simulation model is a representation of a system that is used to predict its behavior under given set of conditions. Development and application of decision support tools have focused on simulation models. Simulation has been considered as an important tool for practical applications. Recognizing the utility of simulation models in analyzing the performance of complex water systems and in developing their operation procedures, two simulation models have been developed in the National Institute of Hydrology (N.I.H), Roorkee. First model [Software for Reservoir Analysis (SRA)] pertains to the simulation of a multi-purpose multi-reservoir system for conservation and flood control purposes while the second model [Simulation of Integrated Network of CHAnnels for Irrigation (SINCHAI)] simulates the operation of a canal system and can be used for real-time operation of canals in irrigation commands. This paper presents a brief description of these models. |
