Abstract: | Reservoirs are an important means for regulation of natural streamflows. Benefits from the structural facilities, such as dams, barrages. hydropower plants, etc.. largely depend on how well these are operated and managed. The paper gives a brief description of conventional and advanced techniques of reservoir operation. Droughts are frequently accompanied by dry and hot weather and during (bough's.. reservoirs are under tremendous stress, Special conditions that need to he employed to operate reservoirs during droughts have been discussed. The paper concludes with a discussion on the susceptibility of storage reservoirs to drought using the Palmer Drought Severity Index. |
