Abstract: In pursuit of exploring water resources in any form in the water sheds, attention of scientists and engineers have been engaged throughout the globe to understand the basin hydrological regime and evolve suitable and sustained management policy of the resources. It involves dealing with a complex of interactive natural processes which can neither be explained in formal mathematical terms nor can be experimented. Hence, representative and experimental basins have been useful means in the watershed management practices since long. National Institute of Hydrology, through its regional centres has since taken up representative basin studies throughout various regions. One such study has been undertaken by the regional centre, Jammu at Baira Nalla sub catchment above Tissa in Western Himalayan Region. The report, amongst other things, discusses the results of some studies already carried out and objectives of proposed studies and activities in the study area, besides reviewing methodology and similar studies done elsewhere.
