Estimation of Design flood are required for a variety of structures. The procedures for estimation of design floods for mountainous catchment differ from procedures for estimating design floods for non-mountainous catchments. This arises out of not only variability of precipitation with elevation but also the variability of other hydrological processes in the mountainous areas. This paper describes some of the procedures for estimation of probable maximum precipitation and probable maximum flood in mountainous areas.en_US
