Abstract: The water quality of Sagar Lake has been studied for its suitability for various beneficial purposes. The Sagar Lake is facing various hydrological and biological problems. The water quality of lake has reached to the critical stage due to continuous discharge of pollutants. This paper is an attempt to analyze water quality of the Sagar Lake by studying physico-chemical parameters for its utilization for beneficial purposes. The colour of the lake water has been observed mostly greenish. The high alkalinity of lake water along with higher SOD and lower DO makes it unfit for drinking purposes. Lake water even observed unsuitable for outdoor bathing and wastewater effluent discharge. The electrical conductivity has been found well below the acceptable limit. The physico-chemical features suggest a high organic pollution level in Sagar Lake and need urgent attention.
