Abstract: The hydrological behaviour of catchments is a very complex phenomenon which is controlled by a large number of climatic and physiographic factors that vary in time and space. The basic problem of hydrology is the establishment of relationships between rainfall and runoff. The application of systems concept has led to studies in hydrology using deterministic, probabilistic and stochastic approaches to deal with problems of hydrological analysis, simulation and synthesis.
