Abstract: Infiltration is an important component of the hydrologic cycle and is defined as the process of entry of water through the soil surface. Earlier, the term infiltration was used to denote the difference between rainfall and runoff in small areas. Hydrological importance of the infiltration process is to be seen from the fact that it marks the transition from fast moving surface water to slow moving soil moisture and groundwater.
