dc.description.abstract | Hydrologic data is a basic input for planning and management of various water resources project in the country. Various agencies like IMD and state departments are engaged in publishing rainfall data on a regular basis. Central Water Commission brings out water year book mainly concentrating on discharge data. Ground water data are collected by Central Ground Water Board. Since water resources planning requires much more hydrological information, which is not readily availbblo, i.t is desirable to have all these in a concise format at one place. The Ganga Plains Regional Centre (Patna) of the Institute had taken up the task of preparing "Hydrological Data Book of Punpun Sub-basin (1974-1990)". The basin was selected in consultation with Bihar state government. The Hydrological data book contains description of river basin, existing network of hydrological stations and their salient feature. This also includes index map showing Punpun sub-basin in Ganga basin, drainage map of river Punpun, location of raingauge stations, location of gauge and discharge sites, and location of graund water observation wells, contour map, geo hydrological map, )end use map, annual isohyetal map and flood inundation map. It also includes daily rainfall data, gauge and discharge data, and monthly ground water levels of the observation wells. The rainfall data were analysed and maximum, minimum, average and monthly values have been presented. In this publication an attempt has been made to put all the available data and information, relating to the Punpun basin, together. There may be certain short comings due to the nonavailability of sufficient data. Suggestions from user would be of help to improve the contents of hydrological data books for other basins. For the preparation of this hydrological book, the data supplied by IMD, State Irrigation Department, State Statistical Bureau, Ganga Flood Control Commission have been made use of. The institute would like to express its sincere gratitude to the organisations for providing the necessary data. This publication was prepared by Shri A.K.Lohani, Sc.'B" , Shri Manohar Arora, S.R.A., Dr.K.K.S.Bhatia, Sc.'F' and Head of the Regional Centre, National Institute of Hydrology, Patna and Shri Arvind Kumar Sinha, Director, Hydrology Cell, Bihar.
